The Grand Canyon is large, and seemingly impervious to the efforts of humans, but nevertheless it needs protection. Grand Canyon national park is set up to ensure that the canyon is preserved in a mostly natural state, while allowing as many people as is practical the best access possible to enjoy the canyon.

The wildlife and plant life within the canyon needs to be protected, from man-made disasters, and from invasive species.

The canyon itself was formed through erosion, so obviously, it is possible for human activity to cause more or less erosion.
