Bram Stoker in his book "Dracula." Van Helsing is the character who hunts down Dracula with Johathon Harker.
Edward Van Sloan played Prof. Abraham Van Helsing in "Dracula" (1931).
Edward Van Sloan in Universal Studio's Dracula in 1931.
Edward Van Sloan played Prof. Abraham Van Helsing in "Dracula" (1931).
In the silent version of Nosferatu (1922), the Van Helsing character was called Prof. Bulwer and was played by John Gottowt. This film, made by F. W. Murnau, was for all intents and purposes, Dracula, but Bram Stoker's widow had not given permission for Murnau to use her husband's book for the film. So Murnau changed the names around. It didn't stop Florence Stoker taking him to court though, and all copies of the film were ordered to be destroyed. Luckily for us, this didn't happen and the film has survived. Max Schreck (as Orlok) plays one of the most revolting vampires ever seen. The role of the Van Helsing character was however, greatly diminished. In the Universal Pictures film of Dracula (1931), directed by Tod Browning, where Bela Lugosi plays the Count, you have Prof. Van Helsing played by Edward Van Sloan, with his correct name this time. The BBC ran a mini series in 1977, Count Dracula, with Louis Jourdan as the Count. This features my personal favourite Prof. Van Helsing played superbly by the actor Frank Finlay. High recommended.
Originally, it was Abraham, like in Dracula 2001 and Bram Stoker's Dracula, but in the 2003 film Van Helsing, they changed it to Gabriel because Abraham seemed too dated.
Hugh Jackman was the 1st one cast for the part, the role of Carl (The werewolf) was 1st offered to Paul Hogan though but David Wenham played the part instead.
No Van Helsing is a vampire hunter
Well according to Van Helsing they do. I personally think they exist and I think they originally were named vampires in Transylvania and that's where it started off.
