"Keeping our feet on the ground" is a way of saying that we're grounded, we're solid. It means we see things as they are and aren't swayed by nonsense. "Reaching for the stars" means making an effort to do more than what is commonly expected. It means trying to achieve things that seem so remote as to be almost impossible. Doing both at the same time is not mutually exclusive. Because they're both common "sayings" and should not be taken literally, it's the meaning of each that has to be understood in order for the sentence to be logical. *This phrase was popularized by the nationally syndicated DJ, Casey Kesem (born April 27, 1932), who hosted the "America's Top 40" weekly program.
