Principally it is meant to include the battles and campaigns starting from the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, and ending at the surrender of the Japanese Empire after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in September of 1945. Additionally the Term Pacific war can include the war fought between China and Japan from 1936 through the rest of WW2.
