Ferrets use their long bodies for many different things. The main thing they use their slender bodies

for is getting into the burrows of their prey. The ferret is nocturnal and usually hunts in the night.

Since it can't see very well it uses its whiskers to judge which holes it can fit into. When a ferret

comes to a hole, it feels how wide the hole is with its whiskers, if its whiskers bend back then the

ferret knows that it won1t be able to fit in the burrow because their whiskers are as long as the

widest part of their body. If they can fit into the hole they are able to move quickly by whipping

their bodies around through the narrow passageways and slithering almost like a snake.

Some other adaptations of ferrets are their defense mechanisms; all ferrets have a foul smelling

fluid that is embedded in their fur, this keeps many animals away, and ferrets also make sounds

such as high pitched screeches and grumbles to warn predators not to mess with them.
