Ancient Greece was made up of many city-states, each with their own customs and lifestyles. In general terms, girls married at between 14 and 18 years old; men were normally in their 20s or 30s before they married because they were often committed to military training or some other profession.

In Athens marriages were usually arranged to take place in the month of Gamelion (roughly our January), which was considered the most favourable time.
