Best Answer

After it is weaned, the farmer usually weans calves at about 10 months of age, while the cow may naturally wean the calf around 11-12 months of age. On the other hand, diary producing cows do not nurse their calves, the calf is separated from the cow at birth, the cow is then milked by machine and the milk is then further administered to the calf through bottle.

Calves drink milk from the bottle until they're around 3 to 4 months of age. A calf suckling from a cow will remain on that cow until it is weaned at around 6 to 8 (or 10) months of age.

How long do cows produce milk after giving birth?

Cows will produce milk for as long as a producer (dairy or beef) needs to have them produce milk, whether it's a time frame of around 6 to 10 months or longer, depending on their type and class of the cows and the producer's management criteria. The time frame, on average, is between or either 6 to 10 months.Dairy cows tend to be milked longer than beef cows due to the fact that they're selected to produce milk, not raise a calf. Beef cows will produce milk as long as they have a calf on them.
