The silent film, Nosferatu (1922), directed by F. W. Murnau, was for all intents and purposes, Dracula, but Bram Stoker's widow had not given Murnau permission to use her husband's book for the film. Murnau went ahead and made the film but he changed the names of the characters. The Dracula type vampire, Count Orlock, was played by Max Schreck, wearing the most grotesque make-up and looking truly horrible. However, Florence Stoker did take legal action against Murnau and won. All copies of the films were ordered to be destroyed, but luckily for us, this didn't happen and the film has survived.(There is an interesting film called Shadow of The Vampire (2000) which is supposed to be about the making of the 1922 Nosferatu film, and stars John Malkovich, and Willem Defoe as Max Schreck. The unlikely premise is that Schreck was a real vampire.)Then in 1931, Universal Pictures made Dracula, directed by Tod Browning and starring Bela Lugosi.Nosferatu was remade in 1979 by Werner Herzog, starring Klaus Kinski. Highly atmospheric.
The original film was released in 1931.
Bram Stoker's Dracula was written in 1897, and the film Nosferatu was made in the 1920's. The creators of Nosferatu wanted the rights to Dracula for the movie, but Stoker refused, so the made Nosferatu instead.
This film was Dracula 2000. The premise of the film was that Count Dracula was actually Judas Iscariot, and had been cursed to walk the Earth for eternity as the undead for betraying Jesus, until he could be destroyed.
Dracula was published in 1897. Hope this helps!
Bela Lugosi was the first actor and the first dracula movie (not counting nosferatu) was in 1931 and was a universal production, he set the look of dracula the voice and everything, another famous horror actor back then was boris karloff who played the original Frankenstein, he played the monster. now heres something funny Bela lugosi was offered the role of Frankenstein but declined it, then later a movie was made dracula vs Frankenstein, something like that, either way it was Bela Lugosi who declined the role of the monster in the original and ended up playing him in Frankenstein vs dracula (or something like that =)
There have been numerous adaptations of Bram Stoker's "Dracula" since its publication in 1897, with over 200 films officially based on the character or story. Notable adaptations include the 1931 Universal classic starring Bela Lugosi, the 1992 film directed by Francis Ford Coppola, and many others across various genres and styles. The exact number can vary depending on how one categorizes adaptations, but it is clear that Dracula remains a popular figure in cinema.

Nosferatu was a German film made in 1922. Im pretty sure it was the first film based on the book of dracula. Nosferatu is the earliest horror film I have seen and have a VHS tape of. Although I've never seen another Deutsch film, "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, I believe it was made a few years earlier than "Nosferatu".
