In 1909, the airship LZ 6 became the first Zeppelin used for commercial passenger transport. Ferdinand Graf von Zeppelin set up the first commercial airline in 1912, using a form of the dirigible to transport more than 34,000 passengers before World War I. The company was called Deutsche Luftschiffahrts-AG (DELAG). The first airline to make scheduled airplane flights was the St. Petersburg-Tampa Airboat Line. The service began in the winter of 1914. They carried one or two passengers in a Benoist flying boat.
