The German 'Enigma' code system (cypher) which required many man hours and decryption relied on both Polish and British intelligence and the navies of the UK and the US. Athough the code system had it's fallacies, it was near 'foolproof' until, with the help of Polish scientists, the British were able to decode the Enigma messages being sent. This gave the Allies a very good lead on the Germans as the Germans did not know the allies had their codes and could read military intelligence reports and commands. One of the major contributors from England to this project was Alan Turing, considered to be the father of modern computing.
