My dictionary defines rump as 'the hinder part of an animal, especially the buttocks.' So perhaps it is a general descriptor of quadrupeds - I don't think you would refer to the rump of a whale nor a of a snake. As a word, it has a general 'north European' sound to it.
The rear end of the animal.
The hinder part, posteriors, or rump of a person or animal.
The part of the cow that is rump roast is the bottom round. A rump roast is most often cut from the sirloin end.

If you're asking about the meat sections of a cow, the behind is called "round" or "rump."
