it is a starfish can regenerate by growing a new body part for the loss of an arm or a leg the body part grows too big when it grows back so the animal will grow to catch up.

Autotomy, aka "self-amputation", aka caudal autotomy is also characteristic of a variety of reptiles and amphibians who can drop a portion of their tails and flee. Over time they can regrow their tail - although usually the part of the tail that was bone is replaced with cartilage in the re-grown tail so it's not quite a thorough a regeneration as that displayed by starfish.

Sea cucumbers can expel internal organs when stressed and later regrow them.

Some crabs like the stone crab have a limited ability to regrow lost claws - although even among species that display this ability most die when one or both claws are lost.

One is a water bear, its not actually bear but more of a bug type thingy. You can freeze it solid and it will still be alive 100 years later after the ice melts and regenerate all of its lost or damaged cells.

Many animals can regenerate-that is, regrow or grow new parts of their bodies to replace those that have been damaged. Here are a few of these amazing creatures that I know.

Lizards who lose all or part of their tails can grow new ones. This is a good escape technique. A lost tail will continue to wiggle, which might distract the predator and give the lizard a chance to escape. Most lizards will have regrown their tail within nine months.

Planarians are flat worms. If cut into pieces, each piece can grow into a new worm.

Sea cucumbers have bodies that can grow to be three feet long. If cut into pieces, each one can become a new sea cucumber.

Sharks continually replace lost teeth. A shark may grow 24,000 teeth in a lifetime.

Spiders can regrow missing legs or parts of legs.

Sponges can be divided. In that case, the cells of the sponge will regrow and combine exactly as before.

Starfish, as you already know, that lose arms can grow new ones; sometimes an entire animal can grow from a single lost arm.

Oh, and salamanders, too!
