hibernate
If you mean "aestivate",this involves adaptations to increase in temperature. It is done by animals that are severely affected by increase in temperature. When a squirrel is active during intense heat periods,it looses a lot of its body water content through respiration, excretion and even through the activities of its cell. So in order to reduce this it simply aestivates. These reasons apply to why cockroaches are active at night and not during the day, because nights have lesser temperatures compared to days.
They estivate (summer hibernation) to avoid the intense heat and lack of food and water. Once the summer rains come they become active again.
