The "emergent layer" is the uppermost layer of a rainforest, where only the tallest treetops emerge from the canopy below. It is inhabited by monkeys, large birds (such as the macaw and the harpy eagle), climbing snakes, bats, and flying insects such as butterflies.
There are many types of animals that live in the emergent layer. Most of them are flying animals. The animals include, butterflies, harpy eagle, scarlet macaw, macaw. Many trees stretch up to the emergent layer too! The most common one is the Kapok Tree. It has roots that are above the ground because the dirt or soil has been washed away.
