What did the crow Indians do Before the white men came?

Before the early 1500's the Crow lived in earth-lodges and were farmers. In the 1500's the tribe moved west to Montana and northern Wyoming, and slowly became hunters of bison and other large game. By 1750 the Crow had given up all farming except for tobacco, and were living in teepees. The arrival of the horse around 1730-1740 allowed the Crow to be more nomadic and to procure large game animals easier. The Crow continued that lifestyle until the late 1880's when the bison disappeared and most land was fenced-in by newly arrived non-Indians.
