The Skype application for Mac OS X (See links below) is delivered as a .dmg file which will mount as a disk icon on the Desktop when double clicked. Double clicking the Skype disk icon opens a window revealing the Skype application's icon which should be dragged into the Application folder. Once the Skype application has been copied to the Applications folder you can right click on the Skype disk icon on the Desktop and select Eject from menu to remove the disk from the Desktop.
