The constitution divides up the power between the three branches with checks and balances! Each branch of government get its own powers and has checks on the other. This way the power of the branches are balanced. This system is called Checks and Balances. They use this system so one branch doesn't get more powerful than another. They didn't want America to be in the situation it was in when it was under the control of great Britain where on branch of the government got too powerful!
