Lattitude and Longitude are the basic large-scale measurments. Lattitude is split into parallels running from the equator from 0 to 90 degrees. The equator is at 0 degrees the South Pole at 90 degrees South and the North pole at 90 degrees North. From there, the circumference of the Earth is divided into meridians which run from one pole to the other. these are divided up into East or West depending on their location from 0 degrees, also known as the Prime Meridian. Where the meridians meet at 180 degrees is known as the International Date Line and determines the onset of each new day as the Sunrise crosses this point. From there, geographers use Minutes and Seconds, which are mathematical sub-units in the division of a sphere. These determine the smaller units of measure and will give you an approximation of the area within a relatively small area.

You don't. It's not possible to convert between area measurements and length measurements, except in special cases.

A common suffix for "special" is "-ness," which can turn the word into "specialness" to describe the quality of being special.
The thing that is special about the location of the islands of the Malay Archipelago is that it contains more than 13,000 islands.
