Common lambsquarters, common purslane, and crab grass are three weeds common to vegetable gardens.

Specifically, the above-mentioned weeds (Chenopodium albium, Portulacea oleracea, Digitaria spp) are all annuals which therefore die with the onset of cold weather. But all three spread by seeds. The seeds will outlive the cold. They therefore will survive to grow new common lambsquarters, common purslane, and crab grass for as much as 2 - 3+ years after their original source plant perishes.

A plant such as poison ivy, poison oak or poison sumac that is a nuisance is one definition of a weed.

Specifically, a weed is actually any plant that is where humans do not want it to be. It is for this reason that poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac are considered weeds. Many humans react allergically to the urushiol oil that pervades all body parts of the three plants in question.
