Dogs do not spray, they mark. Females certainly mark by urinating, scratching the earth (they have sweat glands between their toes), and anal glands that tint the air with their individual odor.

Does it smell when a dogs anal glands drain?

Yes it does. You should take your dog in to your Veterinarian to have the anal glands checked out and expressed too. You want to make sure they are not infected. The Vet can then show you how to express your own pet's anal glands yourself. Normally a dog will naturally express the anal glands on their own by just exercising but sometimes the older & fatter dogs that are in the house constantly will end up with blocked anal glands or draining glands that smell to high heaven. You need to learn how to express them yourself but first make sure there is not an infection present.

What common household process if often compared to the way the endocrine system maintains homeostasis?

The common household process that is often compared to the way the endocrine system maintains homeostasis is a furnace thermostat on the wall of a house. In a house a thermostat is set at a specific temperature. When the temperature in the house falls below this designated temperature, the thermostat is triggered and signals the furnace to turn on and begin heating the house. Once the temperature of the house is above the designated temperature, the thermostat signals the furnace to turn off. This process is called negative feedback. The endocrine also works in a negative feedback system to maintain homeostasis. An example of negative feedback in the endocrine system is the regulation of calcium levels. Parathyroid glands release parathyroid hormone (PTH), which regulates the blood calcium levels. If there is a decrease in blood calcium the parathyroid glands will secrete more PTH. Then the PTH stimulates the release of calcium from the bones into the bloodstream. If blood calcium levels increase too much, the parathyroid glands will reduce their production of PTH and less calcium will be released from the bones.

What is the function of dermal blood supply?

Nerves in the dermis carry impulses to and from hair muscles, sweat glands, and blood vessels. It is innervated to control blood flow through the skin, adjust glandular secretion and house the sensory receptors of which there are two types: pain and mechanical change.

What is in the endoctrine system?

The endocrine system is a collection of glands and organs that produce and regulate hormones in the bloodstream to control many functions of the body. This system overlaps with the nervous and exocrine system, and its responsibilities include metabolism, growth, and sexual development. Most animals with advanced physiology, such as vertebrates and crustaceans, house an endocrine system.

Why do dog rub there behind on the rug?

The same reason we scratch ours. Dogs itch too, you know. This can be caused by impacted anal glands. They have scent glands right outside the anus, and they sometimes get impacted and/or infected. That causes pain, burning, and itching, and dogs will scoot to try to relieve the discomfort. In this case, you will have to drain the glands for them, and if you are unable or unwilling, you should see a dog groomer or a vet. If it is not too bad, you or a dog groomer can treat it. Otherwise, you should take the dog to a vet.
