Knowledge-Based SystemsA knowledge-based system is a computer program that reasons and uses knowledge to solve complex problems. Traditionally, computers have solved complex problems using arithmetic algorithms created by programmers. With knowledge-based systems, human knowledge is captured and embedded explicitly within a program in a symbolic format.

Expressing knowledge as rules and heuristics has two particular advantages over previous software development technology. Not only can explicit knowledge be trapped in the computer, but so can implicit knowledge, which is useful and potentially very profitable. The other advantage is that knowledge that exists in the form of rules can be captured in that form, without having to be converted by teams of analysts and programmers into data definitions and procedures.

Types of SystemsOne way that knowledge-based systems can be classified is by the kind of conclusions they produce. Some interpret the available evidence and produce diagnoses-for example, to explain the reason for a machine breakdown. Others interpret the available evidence but offer a prediction, such as the likelihood of a particular applicant for a loan becoming a slow-payer or a defaulter. Some systems address design questions, proposing the form or layout of a product or the configuration of components. Some are related to industrial engineering matters such as the procedure for assembling the components.

However, not all knowledge-based systems are so ambitious. Many merely use the captured rules to determine to which class a particular example belongs. For example, a system might determine whether a particular person is, or is not, entitled to a particular government benefit, an entry visa, or permanent residence.

What are Expert System requirement needed?

To develop an expert system, you need a knowledge base containing expert knowledge in a specific domain, a rule-based inference engine to reason using the knowledge base, and an interface for users to interact with the system. Additionally, you may need tools for knowledge engineering to capture and represent the expert knowledge effectively.

Which system of knowledge based on facts and principles?

Science is a system of knowledge based on facts and principles that seeks to explain the natural world through observation, experimentation, and evidence-based reasoning. It aims to uncover the underlying mechanisms that govern how the world functions and to provide reliable explanations for natural phenomena.

How can knowledge of the planets of the Solar System be obtained without space probes?

Without space probes, the only knowledge we have of the solar system comes from ground-based telescopes. That's how we did it for 300 years before satellites.

What are characteristic of knowledge based system?

KBS are the systems based on knowledge base. Knowledge base is the database maintained for knowledge management which provides the means of data collections, organization and retrieval of knowledge. The knowledge management manages thedomain where it creates and enables organization for adoption of insights andexperiences. There are two types of knowledge bases.a. Machine readable knowledge bases: The knowledge base helps the computer to process through. It makes the data in the computer readable code which makes theoperator to perform easier. Such information sare used by semantic web. Semantic web isa web that will make a description of the system that a system can understand. b. Human readable knowledge bases: They are designed to help people to retrieve knowledge. The information need to be processed by the reader. The reader can accessthe information and synthesize their own.KBS refers to a system of data and information used for decision making. The system isautomated to work on the knowledge based data and information required in a particular domain of management activity. The processing is done based on the past decisions takenunder suitable conditions. Decision making is based on the fact that the condition issimilar to the past situation hence the decision is also is similar.Examples of KBS are intelligent systems, robotics, neural networks etc
