Dogs eat proper dog food, dog cans, milk or either dog treats. These things are definitely healthy to them! (dog treat are healthy to be dog treat seriously)
In general, it's best to feed dog food to dogs. Dogs have different dietary needs than people, and so a high quality dog food is best.
Dogs can eat most things people eat, except for chocolate (toxic), onions (toxic), grapes, nuts (toxic) except for peanuts, and things high in salt or sugar. Dogs also shouldn't have high-fat foods, alcohol, or caffeinated beverages. In addition, never give a dog a human drug, medicine, vitamin, or pharmaceutical except on explicit instructions from a vet.
If you want to make a meal for dog ON AN OCCASIONAL BASIS (do not use this recipe as a regular meal), here's a simple recipe:
- Enough for two meals for one medium to large dog:
- Cook whole grain brown rice so you have 1/4 pound of rice ready
brown 1/2 pound of ground turkey, lamb, chicken, or beef in a skillet until cooked through
- Add 1/4 pound of mixed frozen vegetables (e.g. peas, corn, etc.)
- Mix in 1/4 pound rice
- Season with a dash of salt and a dash of black pepper if you like
moisten with water, olive oil, or flax seed oil to the desired consistency.
You should feed your dog some sort of kibble or dog food according to its size. Also, the vet usually tells you the best for your dog. A very trustful brand is Royal Canin or MediCal, both protect dogs from urinarry crystals and teeth decay.
About the time she is due make a birthing box or get a box (for small dogs) put clean sheets in it and put it in a clean warm quiet place,Get some clean towels and a baby bulb(for cleaning out their mouths and noses if needed) sterilized scissors in case you have to cut the cord(1 1/2 inches from stomach). Also start feeding her puppy food to help make more milk, she should be eating almost double than before she got pregnant. In about 60 to 63 days you should have puppies.
Well firstly , you need to give it full attention and gain its trust as a pregnant dog can be very unpredictable , give it a nice little pen where it will give birth to its litter , make sure you know what your doing when she starting whelping (giving birth) , make sure you have medical equipment and towels as it can be very messy , it may sound harsh but you will need to tie it down in the pen because as it will want to go to where it wants to go when its giving birth as its their insticnt , also it may start digging the pen but that is also natural. Make sure it is by its self , as she can be very protective over her puppies.
Keep her well fed with GOOD dog food (not the crappy no-name or mainstay stuff they call "dog food"), well hydrated, and have access to a warm place to sleep. When she is nearing the end of her gestation period, she will mostly want to rest, so don't over exert her with exercise, but still give her the exercise she needs.
You could go in to your local vet clinic to have an X-ray done on her when she is a couple days due to whelp, just to see how many puppies she has.
When she does start whelping, make sure you have a whelping box or old sheet or towel for her to give birth on. Have water and maybe some treats on hand in case she needs them for comfort, as well as you present when she is whelping. Keep an eye on her in case she has any troubles whelping, as you may either have to give assistance if she's having trouble pushing the pup out (but ONLY do this if you have experience whelping dogs!), or call the vet to have him/her come over (or you drive her over to the clinic) to assist her in whelping. When a puppy does come out, make sure you have warm towels (preferably those pre-heated in the dryer) to help dry the pup and to help it take its first breath. Keep the puppy (and other puppies that follow) in warm towels near the mother, so that the new mother can lick her puppies and urge them to start suckling.
Well, you can buy a Kong toy at your local pet supply store and fill it with peanut butter. I also recommend using Milk Bone treats or making home made treats.
I fed my puppy 2 pedigree puppy pouches a day, but as she got bigger, I added some puppy biscuits. She is perfectly healthy and the vet said her diet had helped her skin and fur.

Most dog food is healthy for dogs, but human food can sometimes be deadly if you give it to your pooch.
