Meade's objective at Gettysburg was to defend Union territory and prevent General Robert E. Lee's Confederate Army from invading further into the North. Grant, on the other hand, was not present at the Battle of Gettysburg as he was in command of Union forces in the Western Theater at that time.
However, Grant's overall objective throughout the war was to defeat the Confederacy and restore the Union.
