The United States of America, the Netherlands and the islands of the Caribbean are Suriname's major trading partners.

Specifically, the country's traditional trading partner is the European Kingdom of the Netherlands because of its Dutch colonial past. But other historic trading partners include Caribbean islands because of the geographic proximity. In the years since independence on November 25, 1975, the United States has assumed an increasingly important role in Suriname's trade beyond its borders and outside the South American continent.
