The U.S. Forest Service Bureau of Land Management The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service The National Parks Service The USFS is within the USDA, while the latter three are all within the Dept. of Interior.
The Forest Service (USFS) and similar groups do controlled burns. These are controlled and they do not do it for entertainment, they do it to keep things in that particular area in order. So some groups, not just your general firefighters, are allowed to when it is needed. When controlled burns are being performed, there are special precautions taken to prevent public danger.
You can find annual statistics on wildfires from sources such as the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC), the National Interagency Coordination Center (NICC), or the United States Forest Service (USFS). These organizations regularly publish reports and data on wildfires including statistics on the number of fires, acres burned, and other relevant information.
I dated a young woman (Briefly) in the mid 1980's while working for the USFS that stated her uncle was Jay Leno, a comedian that had lots of cool motorcycles up in Los angeles. I wish now we would have road my Harley FLHTP to visit with him.
Protect the wildlife and national forests of the United States. Note; do not confuse the US Forest Service with the US Park Service. The USPS is under the Department of the Interior, whereas the USFS is under the Department of Agriculture.
You'll need to contact the nearest USFS site in the area, which I think is the George Washington & Jefferson National Forests offices. Their contact information is below. Other than that, you might try to look up the county or state historical society or visit a library in that region.George Washington & Jefferson National Forests5162 Valleypointe ParkwayRoanoke, VA 24019 (540) 265-5100
There are wild horses in the United States living on government land all over the country. There are some in Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, North Carolina, and the Western Plains, such as in Nevada, New Mexico, Idaho, Utah, etc.
On the U.S. Forest Service's map, Mount Whitney is 14,495 feet tall. On the U.S. Geological Survey map, it is 14,491 feet tall. And, in the National Geodetic Survey's records, Whitney is 14,497 feet tall. We still don't know the exact one.
He set aside five national parks as president and 18 national monuments. The most important law that was passed while he was president as far as conservation was the American Antiquities Act of 1906, which gives the President the power to proclaim national monuments without acquiring Congressional approval.
Currently there is no replacement for the B-2 stealth bomber. Nor does there seem to be any great need for it. The B-2 was designed during the Cold War purely for the purpose of flying undetected through Soviet radar and air defenses during a nuclear war. When the Cold War 'ended' in 1992 and tensions eased between the US and USSR there seemed to be little need for such an expensive and specialized weapons system. Currently the US Air Force relies on its inventory of the B-2 Stealth Bombers, the B-1 Supersonic Bombers, and its fleet of aging B-52 bombers. At this time there is little more than speculation about what the next generation bomber might be. Originally it was intended that an interim bomber might be in the works, ready for service in or about 2018. This would have been the B-3. But this seems to have died because of budget cuts. Regardless, the '2018 Bomber' may not have been an actual replacement for any of the three long range intercontinental bombers mentioned above, and may have been an intermediate range bomber. Another possibility is what is sometimes referred to as the '2037 Bomber', described by Wikipedia as "a stealthy, supersonic, long-range, heavy-payload, possibly unmanned aircraft to potentially replace the B-52 Stratofortress, which is scheduled to be retired in 2040". However, what form this '2037 Bomber' will take is pure speculation.
You should check out what the USFS is doing. We have been increasing in total acres of forest as well as density for decades. There is more acreage of forest in North America then when the civil war was fought I wish every country followed our lead.
