My understanding is that the US has not adopted the IBAN system and won't until 2010. Some US banks are in the SWIFT network which makes it easier to receive international wire transfers. The remaining US banks require the use of corresponding banks for receiving international wire transfers (and have just a routing number). More money disappears from the wire amount in fees when there is no SWIFT code.
If you need the the SWIFT code (more common for wire transfers), it is dependend on the banks address/location.
If you have access to your Citibank online banking you are able to transfer money from one of your banking accounts to another. Some banks have also started adding bank to bank transfers for a nominal fee rather than doing a wire transfer.
A bank transfer is an alternative term for a wire transfer - a transfer of funds between banks via electronic means.
SWIFT is an identification code for all legal banks in the world. It is needed for all International Wire Transfers.
A SWIFT code identifies banks for international wire transfers. It is an alpha-numeric code. ABA Routing Number only identifies United States banks for US domestic wire transfers. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_9362 http://www.aba.com/products/ps98_routing.htm
SWIFT MT-103 is a form of SWIFT Communication. The SWIFT MT-103 transaction is used in banks as wire and telegraphic transfers to a foreign country.
The swift code is used for International Wire transfers and is the same for all Chase Banks throughout the U.S. and it is as follows: CHASUS33
The banks require cashier's checks, wire transfers or certified funds. I don't know what the state involvement in form of payment would be in this sense.
No. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) does not and cannot track wire transfers. The BSA (Banking Secrecy Act) forbids it from doing so. However, the IRS can, via a court order subpoena a bank account's details and/or put a monitor on it for account activity, which will naturally then also detect all wire transfers made in and out of this account under monitor. The IRS can (as we all know) again with proper authorisation, freeze a bank account.
The Swift Code for Bank of America in San Jose CA would be BOFAUS3N. Banks use Swift Codes for wire transfers.
Western Union is the biggest promoter of wire transfers. You just find a store or call them and they set you up. You dont need an account to wire money either which is their bonus but also downfall bc money-laundering and terrorists use them for this feature. Most international transfers are executed through SWIFT, a co-operative society founded by seven international banks, which operates a global network to facilitate the transfer of financial messages. Using these messages, banks can exchange data for funds transfer between financial institutions. Banks in the United States use SWIFT to make payments to banks in other countries. Domestic bank-to-bank transfers are conducted through the Fedwire system, which uses the Federal Reserve System and its assignment of routing transit number, which uniquely identify each bank.
