It is part of the right concentration.
Meditation is the most important work toward enlightenment.
There are many ways to meditate.
You can walk and meditate at the same time.

Before we explore some of the experiences of Meditation we must know what Meditation really is.
In meditation the yogi learns to awaken the semi-dormant power referred to in ancient texts as Kundalini which normally resides at the base of the spine and bring 'her' up through the psychic centers where different states of consciousness and abilities are given to the yogi.
Meditation is brought about when kundalini has risen up into at least the throat center ( Vishuddha Chakra ).
In order to know what experiences we might have in Meditation we must have a good understanding of the subtle cerebro-spinal centers and their functions which I will go over in brief.
The Vedas speak of seven planes where the mind can dwell.
These planes refer to the seven planes of consciousness which are experienced to the yogi through the seven cerebro-spinal centers.
The three lower centers the Muladhara, Svadhisthana and Manipura Chakras are where the consciousness of the 'worldly materialistic' type of mentalities dwell.
Anahata Chakra
When this center is fully open the adept is in a very deep state of trance bordering on Meditation. The yogi whose mind is concentrated at this center can hear the Anahata sounds created by this center as sounding like a bell-like or gong-sound somewhat similar to the Cosmic vibration as mentioned in many eastern writings.
With the opening of this centre one begins to feel a great Peace and Love.
Vishuddha Chakra
When this center is fully open the yogi has achieved the much sought after state of Meditation. In this state his consciousness becomes at one with that upon which his super-consciousness dwells! The subtle sound produced by this center reverberates with an ocean rumbling or gigantic water fall. When this centre is open one feels a dynamic peace or Imperturbable Calmness of Infinte Energy which to express oneself and solve lifes problems.
Ajna Chakra
When the Meditating yogi reaches this elevated center he finds himself pulled toward the vastness of his soul. As he is gradually released from all mental and physical limitations the yogi feels a certain fear, as if on his first airplane flight, when all customary landmarks are left behind as his consciousness soars into wall-less cosmic ether. However this feeling is superseded by Infinite Joy and Wisdom.
When this center is open the yogi has perfect vision. One can see events in the past, present and future as happening in the now!
The yogi who has this center fully opened can control all other psychic centers beneath it.
The yogi can hear the great gong-like sound of creation booming throughout the ethers as the Cosmic WORD.
When the yogi can remain unbroken in true deep samadhi at this center, then he is ready for the final union of Cosmic Consciousness.
Sahasrara Chakra
When the yogis consciousness reaches this center it ever remains in Samadhi-union or God-consciousness.
At this stage his plane of activity changes: instead of working in the world while thinking or looking towards God, he feels himself in God while working in the world.
Even while eating, sleeping, working, or waking he is intoxicated with the joy of Nirvikalpa Samadhi.
This is the state of the Paramahansa.
Kundalini does not normally stay for a very long in this center unless one is a very unique individual because of the very high vibrations in this center.
Back to Meditative Experiences!
Even basic states of Samadhi or Meditation are states of imperturbable Bliss - in higher states of Meditation you receive great wisdom and Inspiration as well as Bliss.
Most noticeable in Meditation is immobility of Body - when the heart center is fully active one is paralysed from the hips down and is unable to walk or move ones legs.
In true deep Meditation the body goes into a death-like state without dying as a warm band of heat around the forehead keeps the blood in a state of semi-suspension. The meditator is then completely paralyzed and unable to move.
In any state of Meditation one is able to project from the body, levitate, has advanced psychic vision and powers although very often these siddhas or powers actually hold-up the students progress and spiritual advancement unless he or she has strictly controlled his baser aspects and desires.
Meditation and Meditative experiences are stepping stones to God-realization and should be regarded as such with a consciousness of desireless non-attachment.
I practice TM & the experience I have varies with how my body is at that time. Also my experience is different to that of my meditating friends.A person's experience in meditation depends on the state of their body. As one's mind settles down during the easy, natural practice of TM, mental activity becomes less & body gets a deep rest. With this rest, stress is released which can be experiences in many ways. Thoughts, movement, emotions. One is taught how to deal with this by ones TM teacher. With the release of stress one is able to dive deep again & experience finer levels of the mind. Sometimes there is light, sometimes bliss, sometimes stress release, sometimes peace or expansion, sometimes pulsating light & heat, or just thought, sometimes silence, sometimes both silence & activity of the mind together... it all depends. It's a natural process, purifying the body & expanding the mind. In general after meditation one feels good & that one is progressing. In activity things go better, one gets a lot of support from all around & one achieves more & is happier than before. The purpose of meditation is really for the benefits one gets in activity. There is a lot of theory about meditation but the best thing is not to study it as a subject like maths. The best thing is to learn how to do it from a trained teacher & do it & experience for youlself how it is & enjoy your life more.

If properly done, it's essentially the same as any other kind of true meditation. That is, focusing the mind for long time on a very specific and simple object, being physical or not (even "no object" could be). It seems that in Buddhist meditation some meditation objects are more frequent. Such is the case of meditation on breathing, on the body parts or on the full body as a whole among others.
