What are advantage of alternative energy?

I probably cannot list anything like all the advantages.

First off, alternate energy is usually intended to stop polluting, or even reverse the trend to pollute.

Alternate energy usually has small, absent or even negative global warming carbon footprints. The idea of a negative carbon footprint may not seem feasible, but the example of burning methane seeping from a landfill and using the energy for heat is easy to understand. Methane is about 35 times as bad as carbon dioxide as a global warming gas. Since it is seeping from the landfill anyway, burning it to CO2 helps reverse global warming.

Alternate energy conserves resources. For example biodiesel uses grease or used vegetable oil instead of petroleum, conserving the petroleum.

Alternative energy is often less expensive than energy from other sources. For example, one utility is currently selling electricity from burning methane for less than a nearby utility is selling energy from nuclear - and the nuclear price is going up faster than the price from methane.

Alternative energy sometimes produces beneficial results that would otherwise be absent. For example cogeneration plants produce both electricity and heat. If the fuel is biomass, the customers get both products from a single fire, and the operation is carbon neutral because the carbon dioxide put into the atmosphere had just recently come out of the atmosphere.

Alternative energy employs people in small organizations all over the country, it produces more jobs that traditional sources.

Alternative energy uses local fuel source, keeping money in the local and national economies rather that spending on imports.
