The standard USA dollar coin in circulation today has a variety of presidents. The second has Sacajawea on it. Both of these coins are brass. The third is a Susan B. Anthony coin. It was made from 1979 to 1981 and in 1999, and is copper-nickel.
Before that there were large-size (38 mm) $1 coins. From 1971 to 1978 they were made of copper-nickel and featured former president General Dwight Eisenhower.
From 1794 to 1935 the US made $1 coins out of silver. The price of silver was controlled so the coins were only worth $1 and could be used for ordinary spending. Today silver prices are deregulated and these coins are worth at least 0.77 times the current price of 1 troy ounce of silver. Older and rarer ones can be worth considerably more to collectors.
