An analogy for the cytoskeleton would be the frame of a house. This is analogous to the fibers of the cytoskeleton that run immediately below the cell membrane.

One function of the cytoskeleton is to anchor organelles, such as the nucleus, in position.

The cytoskeleton itself consists of long protein fibers. So it is like the guy ropes that anchor a tent, or the wires that hold some radio masts and cell phone towers in place. 3

The cytoskeleton also moves organelles within the cell. In this respect it is like a fishing line being reeled in.
