The geological formations consisting of water permeable rocks that are saturated with salt water called brine. These aquifers are considered to be potential storage site for the carbon dioxide captured from industries. Saline aquifers run deep underground and hence provide access to storage opportunities in many parts of the world. It is estimated that deep aquifers saturated with brine solution has the greatest potential for carbon dioxide storage.
