The gestation period is around 10 to 12 months. Females typically give birth to one calf every two to three years at the start of winter. The new born is 2.5 metric tons heavy and is around 7 meters long at birth. He drinks nearly 400 liters of milk every day and gains around 100 kilos of weight almost every day when he grows.

· Blue whales use their tongues to push water out of their mouths through the baleen plates to trap Krill inside.

· They always try to find large populations of Krill to feed on. To do this, they migrate to areas where there are more Krill. They usually feed 100 metres below sea level because that's where most Krill populations are present. They eat as much as they can during the feeding season to build up body fat that they live off during migration.

· Whales migrate to warmer waters for mating and giving birth. This is believed to be because their calves usually don't have enough blubber to protect themselves from the cold.

· Mother whales hover over their young ones to protect them.

· Blue whales form short term couples during the mating season. Their relationships only last for as long as five weeks.

Hope that helped

Blue Whales are solitary animals that are known to occasionally gather in loose groups to feed. This is with exception of female blue whales with their calves (newborn). These enormous animals use a variety of sounds (known as songs) including hums, squeaks and rumbles to communicate between one another, particularly during the breeding season in winter.
