A clique is a group ( normally consists of popular school girls) who shut themselves in their own friendship circle and don't let anyone join. Meaning you can't be there friend, because they are like a closed, off-limits group. While a clan is a group ( usually consisting of adults and outside of school) that meets up and usually doesn't do a whole lot of good. An example would be the KKK.
