Yes; unless other agreements were made, the publisher would control the rights.
But WHO is the publisher? The company that prints the book is just a printer. The school itself has little to do with the actual production of the book. I was on the yearbook staff for 5 years through junior and high school. There are no copyright marks in my books nor do I think the school pursued and official copyright. All the candid photos used in it were used without express permission from the students depicted.
So who would hold the rights? I worked on it...am I a copyright holder?
As with any photos, the photographer or his/her employer is considered the author and owns the copyright, absent a written contract stating otherwise.
Yes.

Typically, a high school yearbook is the biggest deal. However, junior high school and even elementary school yearbooks exist. The typical preschool does not have a yearbook, so on average, kindergarten will be the first year a child receives one.
Yes, some high schools do put their yearbook online. This is a way for older classes to be able to look back at their high school years.
School libraries generally have copies of yearbooks of past graduating classes available. Aside from the personal copies kept by alumni, the libraries are the most reliable source for past yearbooks.
Very few high school yearbooks are posted on line. Your best chance is to check with the administration or alumni association of that school.
