enzymes as described by my bio teacher do "chores" in the body, when something needs to be done, our body uses enzymes. you can recognize enzymes by looking for the suffix (ase) at the end of a word. An example of an enzyme and its use is Helicase, which unwinds DNA strands at the beginning of transcription.

How do enzymes affect the reaction in living things?

Enzymes act as catalysts. They speed up the reaction time.

Do enzymes affect the thermodynamics of a reaction true or false?

Enzymes have no effect on the overall thermodynamics of a reaction.

What are enzymes called because they affect the speed of chemical reaction without being consumed?

enzymes are never consumed in a chemical reaction, therefore the answer to your question is that enzymes that affect the speed of a chemical reaction without being consumed are indeed called enzymes.

What Enzymes affect the reaction in living cells by changing the?

By changing the speed of the reaction.

What aspects of chemical reaction are enzymes known to affect?

Enzymes affect the speed of reactions predominantly. In some instances in which more than one reaction is possible, enzymes increase the speed of the normally slower reaction enough to make it predominate, while the other possible reaction is effectively suppressed.

How does heat affect the enzymes in a chemical reaction?

At excessive temperatures, enzymes usually denature or break down into other molecules, thus failing to preform their specific function.Other than that, heat does not affect enzymes much but it does increase the speed of the reaction.

Enzymes affect the reactions in living cells by lowering the?

activation energy of the reaction.

What is the effect that enzymes have on certain chemical reactions in living things?

Enzymes lower the activation energy (or free energy of activation for the very scientific) of the chemical reactions they catalyse. The enzymes can make a reaction proceed much more quickly than it otherwise would by astronomical figures, e.g. 109 times! Enzymes don't affect the equilibrium position, but they do affect the rate.

What affect rates does a enzyme catalyzed reaction have?

Enzymes increase the rate of reaction by changing the reaction mechanism to one with a lower activation energy.

How does the presence of enzymes affect the equilibrium position of the breakdown of carbohydrate into glucose?

Enzymes cannot affect the equilibrium of a reaction, nor can they cause a thermodynamically unfavorable reaction to proceed. They are catalysts and can only alter the activation energy and therefore the rate of the reaction.

What are two things that can affect the enzymes shape?

Salt concentration and the pH! also the temperature and activations and inhibitors affect an enzymes actions

How might altering the pH affect the rate of the reaction?

Altering the pH might cause the enzymes involved in a reaction to be denatured. When enzymes are denatured, they do not function properly and the rate of the reaction either slows down or completely stops.
