1. The Alamo was originally a Spanish mission called Mission San Antonio de Valero.
2. It was originally built as a place where local Native Americans could be educated.
3. It was built of adobe and stone.
4. The mission was secularized in 1793, and then abandoned.
5. The Alamo became a fort under the Mexicans.
6. It was surrendered to the Texans in 1845.
7. Santa Anna put it under siege in February 1846.
8. In the subsequent battle, possibly all of the Texans, about 260, were killed, along with 400 to 600 Mexican soldiers.
9. The Texans later used it as a fort.
10. It eventually became a grocery store for a while, but is now a museum.
