Fear is the brain's response to something (real or not) that seems dangerous or scary. Nightmares cause fear, but nightmares are not real and cannot really hurt you. A fear can be legitimate, or illogical. A good example is when a parent screams because they see a lady bug-- their child learns to scream when they see a lady bug-- but a lady bug insect will not hurt any person.
