It is species
Humans (Us). We are the cause of biological extinctions. We use natural resources exponentially. As mankind population increases the greater the chance of an increase percentage of a species extinction. All natural life is a cycle, once we disregard its benefits to us and overuse its properties we may find ourselves begging for just the basic mother nature has to offer us.
Population is the unit of evolution. A population is defined as a group of organisms of a particular species that inhabits a particular area. Natural selection acts on traits within that population that are beneficial in the particular area. Another population of the same species may be under different selective pressures (as it is found in a different location), and natural selection may therefore act on different traits within that second population. The two populations, thus, may evolve differently. Therefore, the unit of evolution is the population, not species.
Most animals are endangered because their habitats are being destroyed.People overkill the species without letting it repopulate. There are a lot of reasons of why animals are in danger...... because of Global Warming, Hunters, Pollution and a lot more.

The species is the basic unit of classification SPECIES:group of individual organisms with fundamental similarities

The role of mass extinction in evolution. At the most basic level, mass extinctions reduce diversity by killing off specific lineages, and with them, any descendent species they might have given rise to. ... But mass extinction can also play a creative role in evolution, stimulating the growth of other branches.

It is not mandatory; acids are also titrated.
Institute in Basic Life Principles's population is 200.
Organisms often become extinct as a result of humans continuing to hunt and kill them even though they might be very few in numbers & there are no mates available with whom they can reproduce. Another cause or contributing cause can be when the basic ecological environment in which the organism requires to live & reproduce in the wild is removed or destroyed. Sometimes when people introduce foreign species to new places, they drive native species (that have not evolved a defense mechanism) to extinction. For example, introducing dogs to an island that does not have any large predators and on which flightless birds live. Starvation, disease, and environmental changes e.g. Ice ages, and meteor strikes.
