I believe the current success of FreshDirect stands on their high-quality customer service. They realize the quality by constantly running PDCA cycle, which is enabled by their highly integrated information system that immediately tells management staff what went wrong.

The quality of service is crucial because what they sell is food. You wouldn't use FreshDirect again if you find piece of meat you ordered is rotten or one of your orders is missing which makes you run to the nearby grocery store.

Their customer base is also one of their valuable resources. Nonetheless, the switching cost for customers are not so high. They can easily change to, for instance, Amazon Fresh if they find it more convenient or cheaper.
