An Hotel receptionist could be considered as being a frontline employee, because of being the first person to deal with the public. A police office on the beat or manning the police station front desk; a cashier in a bank; a bus driver - are all examples of frontline employees.

A front line employee is the first person in an organization (restaurant, bank, etc.) who 'touches' or has the first contact with the customer.

In a nut shell, those who are having direct public contacts or have to face public queries, grievances sitting at the Co's front desk, are called frontline employees.
