A Geordie is a speaker of Tyneside English, a Northern dialect that owes more to the Anglic branch of Old English than to the Saxon branch from which Standard English descends. It also refers to the dialect itself. In Scots it means a guinea.

People may hold stereotypes about Geordies, residents of Newcastle upon Tyne, due to cultural representations in the media or limited interactions with individuals from the region. Stereotypes can be perpetuated by exaggerating certain characteristics or behaviors associated with a particular group. It is important to remember that stereotypes do not represent the diversity and individuality of people from any region.

The more common answer these days is that it comes from 'taking the dog for a walk' as a euphemism for going to the pub, but as that expression is common throughout the UK, its not clear why it is thought to be linked to Newcastle Brown in particular To the older generation of Geordies it is called Dog because it bites your legs.

as far as I know a linty is a Geordie slang word for a linnet , a bird that flies fast so to move anyway like quickly is to move like a linty. my mam says she always thought a linty was an animal maybe like a monkey climbing a tree at fast speed, she uses that expression regularly as she is a Geordie . do any other geordies/lintys know if we are right about this?
Shola Ameobi can't seem to get into the first team at the moment behind Demba Ba & Pappiss Cisse, however, he often plays in a Tyne-Wear derby which is the famous Newcastle vs Sunderland fixture. He always seems to score in that particular fixture and has scored 7 goals in 12 Tyne-Wear derbies. He is now called "The Mackem Slayer" by Geordies as he always finds the back of the net against the mackems which is sunderland's nickname.
