either they are fighting for dominancy or simply playing around. if you can hear a small squeak or them grinding their teeth before they fight, with their paws up, then you might want to separate them because that means their fighting for dominancy and you never know how far theyll go to get that dominancy. daeth doesnt usually happen, but i don't know if theyll kill each other. they might.
omiai:
as above, it can be proper fighting, but often gerbils fight for fun. Mine play a game with each other, they fight, then whoever wins gets to clean the other one. They enjoy it, and they have never harmed each other yet. But keep an eye on them, incase their fighting does turn nasty!
Yong ones do it when they are showing effection to each other. That is called "play fighting". Young ones sometimes fight though but you can tell if "fighting" or "play fighting".Older gerbils how ever do it because they are showing who is the "dominate one". by: someone (mystery)
Gerbils will attack each other for different reasons. One of the reasons is that when the mother or father is old the child will kick the parents out by fighting to the death. Also another reason why they will fight is because of a female. Otherwise gerbils are nice and don't fight.
I have the same kind of problem with my two male gerbils. They get along fine, then after I clean the cage, they fight for a couple of days. I put some of the old bedding back in after I clean the cage, but that doesn't seem to work. I would love some advice on this problem too. Help. If they are fighting after rearranging the cage it probably because they are fighting over territory. Hope that helps.
Gerbils, like any animal, will become aggressive towards their owners if they have a lack of socialization. To socialize a gerbil takes weeks, normally, and patience.
First, sit with your hand in the cage. Do not move towards the gerbil. If the gerbil nips you, it's just seeing if you're edible, but if it gives a harder bite, wear leather gloves. Keep doing this until your gerbil is comfortable with you being there, i.e. doesn't nip at you and maybe even climbs on your hand.
Start offering treats to the gerbil. Their favorite is sunflower seeds. Place one in your hand and let your gerbil find it and take it from you. Start doing this often, and eventually the gerbil will crawl into your hand looking for the treats.
Try moving your hands slowly up and down, acting as though you were going to lift the gerbil from the cage. The gerbil will most likely jump down, so make sure you do not lift your hand too far from the cage floor the first few times. Gradually, the gerbil will become used to and even expect these movements, at which time you can take your gerbil out and hold it, letting it crawl from hand to hand.
If you'd like, sit in the empty bathtub (drain plugged) and let your gerbil run around in there. This way, the gerbil can come up to you when it pleases, and messes are easy to clean away.
They dont have any. You could put a cat in there cage and it wouldn't do anything.
Ferrets and birds. Gerbils have no natural instinct to fear cats.
gerbils enimes are ferrets and birds gerbils hate them ofcourse well hehe ...
Snakes
Natural predators of gerbils are snakes, cats, and birds of prey--all of which come down on the prey, so make sure when you pick up your gerbil, you scoop it from underneath.
Due to the harsh environment that gerbils would live in, the only predators would be the odd sanke or bird but nothing much.
no
does the flame bowerbird have any natural predators?
The Siberian tiger is the apex predator of their habitat and has no natural predators.
nothing. Nosebleeds in gerbils are natural.
Tigers are top predators. They do not have any natural predators
In the deserts gerbils bury tunnels underground that they call 'chambours.' And one gerbil is in charge of that one. Gerbils often group up together to defend each other from predators such as Snakes, Birds probably.
No. Only humans are predators to gorillas
The Red Kite has no natural predators in the UK.
Predators of desert locust
In the adult stage Birds are the main predators.
