1Thessalonians:413-18: But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

14: For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

15: For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

16: For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18: Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

AnswerWhen a Christian dies they go to heaven, and some verses to comfort them dying (and don't forget the living as well) are:-

Psa 23:4 KJV Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Psa 116:15 KJV Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.

Rom 14:8 KJV For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.

1Co 15:54-57 KJV So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. [v. 55] O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? [v. 56] The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. [v. 57] But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

2Co 5:6-8 KJV Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: [v. 7] (For we walk by faith, not by sight [v. 8] We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

Php 1:21 KJV For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

1Th 4:13-18 KJV But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. [v. 14] For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. [v. 15] For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. [v. 16] For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: [v. 17] Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. [v. 18] Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Rev 21:4 KJV And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Since non-Christians do not go to heaven but instead to hell, there are no appropiate Bible verses to comfort them: they have left it a bit too late:-

2Co 6:2 KJV (...: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

There are many appropriate Bible verses to comfort the sick. The most common one is Isaiah 53:5 which states, "But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed." (NKJV)

I have found these scriptures to be very comforting especially for times of sorrow and grief. 2 Cor. 4:7-18: 7 However, we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the power beyond what is normal may be God's and not that out of ourselves. 8 We are pressed in every way, but not cramped beyond movement; we are perplexed, but not absolutely with no way out; 9 we are persecuted, but not left in the lurch; we are thrown down, but not destroyed. 10 Always we endure everywhere in our body the death-dealing treatment given to Jesus, that the life of Jesus may also be made manifest in our body. 11 For we who live are ever being brought face to face with death for Jesus' sake, that the life of Jesus may also be made manifest in our mortal flesh. 12 Consequently death is at work in us, but life in YOU. 13 Now because we have the same spirit of faith as that of which it is written: "I exercised faith, therefore I spoke," we too exercise faith and therefore we speak, 14 knowing that he who raised Jesus up will raise us up also together with Jesus and will present us together with YOU. 15 For all things are for YOUR sakes, in order that the undeserved kindness which was multiplied should abound because of the Thanksgiving of many more to the glory of God. 16 Therefore we do not give up, but even if the man we are outside is wasting away, certainly the man we are inside is being renewed from day to day. 17 For though the tribulation is momentary and light, it works out for us a glory that is of more and more surpassing weight and is everlasting; 18 while we keep our eyes, not on the things seen, but on the things unseen. For the things seen are temporary, but the things unseen are everlasting. Also Matt. 10:28-31 are the comforting words of Our Lord Christ Jesus when he said: 28 And do not become fearful of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; but rather be in fear of him that can destroy both soul and body in Ge·hen′na. 29 Do not two sparrows sell for a coin of small value? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground without YOUR Father's [knowledge]. 30 But the very hairs of YOUR head are all numbered. 31 Therefore have no fear: YOU are worth more than many sparrows.

the verse in psalm 23:

the lord is my Shepard I shall not want.

he maketh me lie down in green pastures:

he leadeth me by the still waters.

he restoreth my soul:

he leadeth me in the path of righteousness for his names sake.

yea though I walk through the shadow of death, I fear no evil for thou art with me.

thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

though preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies.

thou annointest my head with oil my cup runneth over.

surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I shall dwell in the house of the lord forever "amen.'

Jesus Christ said, "in my house are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you. The meaning of this is that when a person dies and his soul goes with Jesus, Jesus has a place for all souls who believe in God, and his words are our reassurace.

Romans 10:13 "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 8:1 "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh but follow God.
