PRESSED POWDER: This is the most common kind of eye shadow. It is easy to use, easy to carry, and works. Almost every makeup company makes this.
LOOSE POWDER: This looks like colored baby powder. I've seen it two ways. One is in a little bottle with a brush (it looks very much like a bottle of nail polish), and the other is a little jar and you supply your own brush. Bare Minerals eye shadow is loose powder.
PENCIL: It looks like a fat eyeliner pencil.
CREAM: This is good if you want a really dramatic, intense color on your eyes. You cannot do "subtle" with this.

Brown eyes: Anything
Blue eyes: Brown if you want your eyes to look darker, copper, violet, melons
Gray: Anything. If your gray eyes are more on the blue side, then do makeup for blue eyes.
Green: Pinks, plums, and black
If you are darker skinned, silver on your eyes will tend to make you look ashy.
If you are golden Asian complexion, avoid brown or tan. These colors look drab on you.
If you are light skinned, don't wear colors that are too dark, it's just too much.
