What are groups in periodic table?

Vertical columns are named 'GROUPS.

Horizontal lines are named 'PERIODS'.

Each Group has a number, and sometimes a name

Hence Group (I) ( The Alkali metals)

Group (I) , contains the metallic elements ;- Lithium , Sodium, Potassium, Rubidium, Caesium, and Francium.

Group (II) are the Alkaline Earth Metals

Group (VII) are the Halogens

Group(VIII) are the Noble/Inert Gases.
