This position involves overseeing federal programs that address urban development, affordable housing, and community development initiatives. The Secretary works to ensure access to safe and affordable housing for all Americans and promotes sustainable urban growth.
The large population in cities created a need for other land to be developed for housing. This led to the development of outlying areas next to bigger cities called suburbs. It also created the need for wider roads through the cities.
The largest cities are now located outside of the development continents due to various factors, such as economic opportunities, urbanization trends, and population growth in these regions. Many developing countries are going through rapid urbanization and experiencing high population growth rates, which leads to the emergence of large cities in these regions. Additionally, changes in global economy and infrastructure development have also contributed to the shift of largest cities to outside the development continents.
Smaller communities located in the area surrounding large cities are often referred to as suburbs or suburban areas. These areas are typically residential and provide housing options outside of the urban center.
Rural development is the development of rural (outside cities) regions of a country, state or province.
