Industrial robots are usually non-adaptive and are capable of performing its routine tasks efficiently, ranging from drilling, welding, spray-painting and packaging. Industrial robots are used in the process of manufacturing, assembly of electronics, processing food, etc.

All industrial robots must have a means to carry out its tasks to be effective, which is called an end effector - a mechanical device on the end of a robotic arm capable of performing useful work. They come in all shapes and form, depending on which is the most suitable for the task(s) they are performing. Most end effector used to carry out some form of cutting, drilling or twisting action needs a tool of some kind. Those used for grasping, holding, moving or controlling operation needs to have a gripper. In addition, a switch that can turn an electric current on and off is added to those robots in charge of an operation that needs to be connected, disconnected or redirected.

Are all robots able to move around?

The traditional view of robots as semi-intelligent machines that can move around and behave like humans is a long way from the norm. Although there are robots that are human like, the vast majority are industrial robots. They are built and programmed to do very specific jobs such as product assembly, picking and sorting.
