The continental rise and the continental shelf.
A "continent" is the land area; the Pacific Ocean isn't a land area. The Pacific Ocean separates the North and South America continents from Asia.

The two continents with the largest land areas are Asia and Africa.
The expanse of land known as a 'continental shelf' where seawater is shallow, before it drops off into the ocean.
A land bridge is created when the earth experiences an ice age. the oceans' water evaporates, but falls as hail or snow on land. The precipitation can't flow back into the ocean, which still evaporates. This continues until all the water is evaporated, leaving the ocean floor exposed. The ocean floor is the land bridge that connects continents. from a sixth grader
Because the continents were once one large piece of land. As one large piece of land, there were no continents. Sections broke away over time, likely aided by the fact that the ocean floor is constantly expanding each year. Look up Pangea and see image in Related Links.
because if the sea-floor is moving it will probably will move a chunk of land that could be part of a continent the land at the bottom of the ocean is being spread across, and is taking space up. the continents are on tectonic plates, and need to go some where and move away.

The ocean's surface
Because, the land is where the ground meets the sky ,and the ocean floor is where the ground meets the water.
They are the same because they both have water on some parts of the land and they both are a part of land on this earth. I hope this gave you a couple answers you are welcome. ~Alanna Lynn Harwick 4/18/13
