Barker Leather shoes generally use cowhide, goat hide and sheepskin. The skin is made of two layers bonded together using animal glue. The outer layer is called the grain side. The inner layer is called the flesh or split side. The grain side is tough and durable while the flesh side is soft and pliable. Leather shoes can also be made with synthetic materials such as vinyl and microfiber.
