Can a Mormon priest perform legal wedding?

The short answer is yes. The longer answer is that boys become Priests when they are 16 usually, so they rarely marry until they become Elders (around age 18). Most adult males in the church are Elders. On the other hand, tens of thousands of adult males join the LDS Church a year. These are all ordained to the office of priesthood shortly after baptism. While a large number are married, many are not, and those who are not can get married whenever they chose. I have in fact had friends who held the office of priest in the Mormon Church at the time they married because they had been members of the Church such a short time. Now if you mean the leaders of our congregations, those are Bishops... and I've never seen one that wasn't married, actually. There aren't any groups in the church that are forbidden to marry, such as nuns or monks... Mormons believe that marriage is something that God encourages. I think more to the point in answer to the question asked, there are no Priests as such there is no paid clergy the Bishops or branch presidents are lay people who are appointed to the position and serve for a time and then are released and someone else is appointed. No set time, depends on lots of things. and they are usually married or likely to get married during the time they are Bishops if they were not to begin with. The Mormon church is extremely family oriented.
